History …
In 1944, the Sisters of St. Benedict came to Utah from St. Joseph, Minnesota, (St Benedict’s Monastery) in response to a request from city and county officials, to build and operate St. Benedict’s Hospital in Ogden. Over the years, the sisters’ work has expanded to also include:
Education
Parish Ministry
Prayer and retreat work
To insure a continuing presence in Utah, the sisters requested to become organized as a separate monastery. This change is a familiar process
within the Benedictine tradition.
In August, 1994, just 50 years after the first Benedictine woman came to Ogden, Mount Benedict Monastery was established as an autonomous, self-governing Benedictine community in the diocese of Salt Lake City, serving God's people by their prayers and presence as well as through various professional ministries.
